Although the temptation is great to view the
tragic death of Paul Wellstone this morning through the prism of how it affects control of the Senate, my immediate feeling is that his loss is one too terrible for liberals to bear. Even if he had lost his reelection bid, he still would have been one of the more inspiring public figures of his generation, a man who
never backed away from taking an unpopular stand. He will be dearly missed.
