Fair point, and I hate stupid French-bashing myself (google "Napoleon" for some truth about French military history), BUT..."French" isn't an ethnicity. It's a nationality.
Actually, it's both a nationality and an ethnicity (as any Quebecois, or a certain native of Switzerland will tell you). In any event, I don't see what difference it makes in this context; Der Sturmer would not have been less offensive if the focus had been on Israelis rather than Jews.
